Frequently Asked Questions
How do i get started?
The very best way to start is with an Introductory Private Lesson. During this lesson you will work one to one with a qualified instructor and learn the basic steps in two or three dances. This is a great way to gain confidence in your ability to dance. To schedule a private lesson just call the studio at (812) 232-1490.
If you prefer to start with a group class you may register on line, by phone or just show up on the first night of class. The Wednesday night classes are a great place to start. They meet every week at 7:00 pm. A minimum of five students is required or a group is subject to cancellation, so pre-registration is appreciated. If for some reason a group is canceled after payment, you may choose to have the tuition refunded or applied to a different class.

Do I need a partner?
No partner is necessary to participate at The Dance Studio. On group lessons we rotate partners and during private lessons you will dance with your instructor.
What Should I Wear?
Casual clothing is best. You want to wear something that is comfortable to move in. While we do not require specialty footwear, choose a shoe that fits snugly to your foot. Backless sandals are in inappropriate choice because they are difficult to keep on while dancing. Shoes with leather soles are generally a better choice than shoes with rubber soles. The rubber tends to stick to the floor.
What is the quickest way to learn to dance?
We recommend a program that includes private lessons, group classes and practice parties. Private lessons are great for one to one instruction, group lessons help you learn more patterns quickly while improving your ability to lead and follow and practice parties are where you learn to put it all together in a fun party environment. And, instructors are always at the parties to dance and answer questions.
How long will it take to learn to dance?
This depends on how many types of dances you want to learn, how often you want to take lessons and how frequently you want to practice. You will be dancing by the end of your very first lesson!
How Long does a lesson last?
Currently all our lessons are 50 minutes long, beginning on the hour and ending 10 minutes before the hour unless other arrangements have been made with your instructor.
